Electronic Monitoring Unit

The Home Detention Unit was established to provide an alternative sentencing option and help reduce jail overcrowding. Alternative sentencing allows for better management and use of limited confinement space. Most importantly, the limited confinement space we have can be used to confine those individuals who are charged with or sentenced for more serious crimes.

The following list outlines the type of offender who may be referred for electronic monitoring:

Sentenced Offenders
Pre-Sentenced Offenders (as a condition of bond)
Monitoring of Domestic Violence Offenders

Individuals who are referred to home detention are required to wear an electronic monitoring device (ankle bracelet) and are restricted to their homes. Depending on the circumstances, individuals may be permitted to work, attend religious services, doctor appointments or tend to other personal needs. (The Sheriff's Office charges initial set up fee for electronic monitoring.)

In addition to the monitoring device worn by the offender, deputies are assigned to monitor and supervise offenders 24 hours a day. Deputies make unannounced home visits and in the case of individuals who are permitted to work or attend to other needs, make unannounced visits to this location. The deputies have an electronic monitoring software that will verify from outside the location whether the individual is present or not.
