MicroficheThe large volume of records we maintain requires an efficient method of storing the information. The Microfiche Department stores older records on microfiche or microfilm so that they are available for current investigations. Scientific Identification Unit (SIU)It is the responsibility of the SIU to classify, compare, and search for matches to fingerprints taken from all individuals in the Sheriff's custody that are booked into county jail. They also take prints of individuals at the courts' request to verify identification. The Photo Lab is overseen by fingerprint technicians who work hand in hand with the jail personnel. Mug shots are taken at the time of booking. The film is brought to SIU and developed and a permanent record is established. Jail personnel assist the photo lab personnel in maintaining the cameras and equipment used in this process. Negatives are kept on file in the Photo Lab for future reference. ReleasesThe Release Area of the Records Division checks an inmate's record at the time of release to ensure there are no holds or warrants from any court or law enforcement agency. Cuyahoga County records are checked first, then other county, local, state and federal agencies are checked through our radio dispatchers. If no holds, wants or warrants exists, the release is approved and the jail is notified. Court LiaisonIt is the responsibility of the Court Liaison to facilitate the decisions of the court within the Sheriff's Office. The Clerk of Courts notifies the Court Liaison of entries journalized and gives instructions for admission, release, movement, and care of inmates. |
